Will you find people in Provence celebrating la Saint Valentin or as we would say in North America, Valentine’s Day? Yes, but not in the way we do here in North America.
France itself is synonymous with visions of romance and being in love, and, while this is generally in relation to Paris, all of France, including Provence celebrates love and la Saint Valentin. It differs though from how we would celebrate it here in North America, in that la Saint Valentin is for people ‘in love’ and not intended for celebrating loving friendships or family relationships.
Celebrating la Saint Valentin
When celebrating la Saint Valentin one might express their love through a gesture of flowers, fine chocolates, jewelry, perfume, or for some it would be dinner out at a restaurant.
One of the destinations on our Jackdaw Journeys tours is the famous Maison Godet, a perfumery that has been making beautiful scents since the 1900s. You will be greeted by Sonia, the great-granddaughter of Maison Godet’s founder. After enjoying a welcome cognac with biscuits, you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the perfumery, and sample the many scents and pick out your personal signature scent.
